PLATEAU OF TASSIL N’AJJER From Jabbaren to the city of Séfar, hike in Tassili N'ajjer with donkeys, to discover the most important collection of prehistoric rock art in the entire world From Jabbaren to the city of Séfar, the Tassili N’Ajjer Cultural Park is home to one of the most important collections of prehistoric rock art in the entire world. Listed by UNESCO, the petrified places preserve in their crevices more than 15,000 drawings and engravings from 6000 BC to the first centuries of our era. The history of humanity, our history, unfolds before your eyes through drawings which illustrate the evolution of civilization and climate, stories of wars and conquests, and the disappearances of animals. A journey through time spanning several thousand years in just 8 days, come and open the great book of the desert and humanity. After the steep climb of Akba Tafelelet in the company of donkeys and their masters, you reach the tormented plateau in the middle of the sandstone cathedrals and the Tamrit wadi lined with its thousand-year-old cypresses (the oldest is said to be 4700 years old). ). Tin-Tazareft is your first stop to observe the rock paintings and more particularly a magnificent representation of painting of “round heads”. You continue on to the city of Séfar, “the city of stones” listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, the largest troglodyte city in the world, with several thousand fossilized houses. Yann Arthus Bertrand devoted a whole part of his documentary film “Algeria seen from the sky” to the city of Séfar. At Tin Abateka, you contemplate the natural curiosities of the plateau: peaks, domes, sandstone cathedrals... each crevasse shelters a life-size sketch of the past and its inhabitants. The highlight of the show is the revelation of the Jabbaren site which contains more than 5,000 rock paintings and engravings tracing the history of the prehistoric central Sahara. The famous “Great Martian God” by Henri Lhote awaits you with open arms on site! Less famous hoax than that of Orson Wells but just as fantastic to watch.

Each evening, the guide gathers you around the bivouac fire and reminds you of this Saharan proverb: “The Tuaregs need three things: friends, embers and time. That's all it takes to make the tea."
✮ Extend the pleasure and combine this circuit with “Ecarlarte Tadrart” or “IfadaIfadanouan”.
